When Uliana Lopatkina drops her chin and extends her neck as if to look at her reflection in the water, she entirely leaves her human form (@2:30). Her liquid port de bras is hypnotic. But she also creates a sublime drama in her bouree. Like a musician, she adjusts the tempo, or suspends the bourree altogether, like a single note hanging in the air, and then creates an undercurrent of suspense beneath the sweeping and lush drama in her upper body. Equally fascinating is how Lopatkina carves the space with her movement and shapes the voids around her, especially behind her, to incarnate her swan. Rare!
